Georgians have a giving heart, which is why non-profit organizations throughout the state find it a welcoming place to expand on their philanthropic efforts, and why they continue to locate here. One study, sponsored in part by Georgia State University, shows the number of charitable non-profits in the state grew 36% from 2000 to 2005.
Spurring this robust activity is the strong partnership between Georgia’s philanthropic organizations, both private and community-based, and a rapidly expanding business community. Often with the assistance of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits they come together to effect positive change no matter how foreboding the challenges, how large the resources needed, or where their target markets are located.
Atlanta has long been home to important institutions including The Arthritis Foundation®, The American Cancer Society®, CARE® and nearly half of the state’s other non-profit organizations. But a compassion and willingness to take part in the not-for-profit world is found in every corner of the state. For example, Habitat for Humanity® International, based in Americus, has used its roots in South Georgia to become a guiding presence throughout the world.
Whether you’re starting a private or family foundation, or you’re responsible for relocating a community foundation, you’ll find Georgia an especially receptive state.
