Does Georgia provide financial incentives for music production?

The Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act provides tax credits for music video productions and sound recordings used in feature films, television series, pilots, movies and video games produced in Georgia. Music video productions qualify if in-state expenditures by a single company on one or more projects reach at least $500,000. With our new generous financial incentives, of up to 30%, shooting your music video or scoring your project in Georgia will save you money!

 

How do I copyright my song, music video or the name of my band?

You will find all your questions regarding copyrights have been answered online at the U.S. Copyright Office.  All the forms necessary to register your copyright are posted on the site.

 

What is a “performing rights organization?”

The organization ensures compensation for songwriters and publishers when their music is publicly performed. We are fortunate to have three performing rights organizations with Georgia offices:  SESAC, BMI and ASCAP.

 

I am a music professional living in Georgia. How can I promote my services?
You should consider listing in the Georgia Music Production SourceBook.  The Music SourceBook is your complete guide to music labels, distribution and publishing. How do I find crew in Georgia for my music video shoot?

A good resource is the Georgia Film, Video & Digital Entertainment Sourcebook, our annual directory of local production services and staff. If you are considering shooting in Georgia, please call our office for a copy. If you can't find what you are looking for, our office will be happy to assist you.

Do I need a permit to shoot my music video in Georgia?
The Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office does not issue permits. Filming in Georgia requires an easy permitting process that is provided by each municipality. There may be a small permitting fee required.  Contact our office for additional information or to address specific questions.

 

I am a composer and would like to find out how I can promote my music for film and gaming?

The Georgia Film, Video & Digital Entertainment Sourcebook has a Music Composition and Sound Design Section so composers can be easily located by movie, television or gaming company producers that need their projects scored. For listing information call Oz Publishing at 404.633.1779.

 

Where can I network with other Georgia music professionals?
Atlanta is one of only twelve U.S. cities with a chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (The Recording Academy).  The Recording Academy- Atlanta Chapter hosts educational and networking events for members throughout the year.   Since 1979 the Georgia Music Industry Association has provided an avenue for networking within the music community, educating and serving those who desire to have a career in music, whether creative or technical. Georgia Lawyers for the Arts  offers workshops and seminars on legal and business issues educating artists and arts organizations about their rights and responsibilities. For the past decade the 7:30 Club has offered networking opportunities for the community.  Georgia also boasts music festivals in every region allowing artists to mix and mingle with their peers.
