Biosciences

Scientific work in biology and health care is nurtured by the technology, partnerships and funding sources that drive Georgia to the crossroads of global health. In fact, our $7 billion bio- and life-sciences industry, employing more than 30,000 people, ranks seventh in the U.S.

As a single source catalogue for Georgia's research information, iResearchGeorgia is a unique searchable database that puts the state's powerful intellectual capital to your fingertips. It enhances collaboration across universities and allows industries to quickly identify experts, research centers and projects with commercial potential.  This free resource also allows users to easily explore published papers, patents, over 500 leading faculty profiles, and National Institute of Health grants associated with Georgia's brightest researchers from public and private research universities.

The Centers of Innovation is the central source for Accelerating Business Growth in georgia through Innovation and technology providing collaboration with leaders in University research, Business and access to intellectual capital. The Center of Innovation for Life Sciences in the state of Georgia accelerates the growth of businesses in the life sciences industry by connecting them to research and commercialization.

This growth is one reason the state played host to 14,532 industry leaders from 58 countries and 48 states at the Bio International Convention May 18-21, 2009 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Some 1,800 companies helped conduct 14,000-plus one-on-one partner meetings. Also in attendance were numerous Georgia-based companies, as well as state universities, hospitals, and research institutions that support the industry. Among the latter is the Georgia Research Alliance, which ignites multi-university collaboration through two dozen Centers of Research Excellence.

Other research facilities and bioscience incubators in the state, which include American Cancer Society labs, provide sophisticated infrastructure and equipment to help create new, marketable technologies. Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center and VentureLab both play a vital role in launching success stories among bioscience firms, as do the university-to-marketplace partnerships formed by the Technology Development Centers at Georgia State University, University of Georgia, Emory University/Georgia Tech and the Medical College of Georgia.

Whatever ideas your company seeks to explore in the world of bio- or life sciences, Georgia has the resources you need to bridge the gap between ideas and innovations, and entrepreneurial success.
