Georgia’s Music Industry Provides Unique Experiences for Live Music
As with so many facets of the global economy, it is no surprise that the entertainment industry has also been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 crisis, and Georgia’s live music industry has not been immune. According to the Recording Academy, more than 300 festivals have been canceled nationwide, impacting thousands of jobs and small businesses who serve the industry.
Despite this news, Georgians have stepped up to provide unique opportunities for Georgian musicians hit hard by COVID-19.
On Tuesday, May 26, the Georgia Music Foundation hosted a free online concert showcasing Georgia’s diverse talent of musicians like Amy Grant, Indigo Girls, and Jontavious Willis. The annual Georgia On My Mind concert, normally held at the famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, became an opportunity for music lovers worldwide to learn about the influence and inclusivity of Georgia's musical community. Nearly 100,000 viewers from across the country and internationally tuned in during the 24-hour period that the show was available to stream.
Recently, drive-in theaters have experienced a renaissance in Georgia as patrons have been able to enjoy movies and steamed concerts from the safety of their car or through other social distancing procedures.
Now, the Georgia Grown Concert Series has partnered with venues across the state to provide a safe, socially distanced in-person live music experience like no other. To ensure safety measures are maintained, a limited number of tickets are available and all tickets will be sold in advance of the concerts. Georgia musicians such as Craig Campbell, Colt Ford and Justin Dukes will take the stage over the course of the summer with full music production elements, including lights and screen displays at drive-in theaters in Tiger and Jesup, Georgia.
And in the spirit of Georgia industries helping each other, the concert series has also partnered with the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Georgia Grown to Go campaign to sell Georgia grown products to concert attendees and help our state’s agriculture producers and growers.
Georgia’s music industry has a long tradition of world class talent and recording production facilities. In these difficult times, we are grateful for these efforts to support Georgians working in the music industry.
