Georgia Center of Innovation Channels Expertise to Propel Frac Water Treatment Business
What do wastewater treatment, cutting-edge water “fracking” techniques, and the State of Georgia have in common? One of the state's leading ecosystem-building resources: the Georgia Center of Innovation.
As part of the Center of Innovation’s focus into energy sustainability, our team has become well-versed in helping businesses of all kinds find a circular, sustainable path for treating and making use of a variety of waste products — including water.
Ecologix Environmental Systems is just one example of a Georgia business tapping into this knowledge and expertise. As a company that specializes in the manufacturing and integration of wastewater treatment equipment for the oil and gas, food, manufacturing, and automotive industries, Alpharetta-based Ecologix has maintained a connection to the Center of Innovation affording them access to a personal consultant providing guidance during key moments in their development.
One of these moments was the company’s breakthrough into the service sector.
Continuing conversation with consultants at the Center of Innovation helped Ecologix find a new opportunity for leasing frac water treatment systems to oil companies, thanks to the Center’s unique understanding of the growing demand for treated water in the oil industry. Now, Ecologix’s Integrated Treatment Systems for this frac water are assembled on-site and can treat 2,000 gallons per minute.
As Ecologix’s business continued to grow and diversify, the synergy between the Ecologix mission and the Center of Innovation helped the company continue to reduce drag, confront challenges, and propel their business forward. Today, Ecologix continues to find success in a variety of areas, from supplying the wastewater treatment system for the paint line at the Kia Motors manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, to manufacturing a system to aid the Army Corps of Engineers in removing algae from water at power plants in Florida. As the business continues to advance, Georgia’s Center of Innovation is able to come along beside them as a steady and trusted resource for valuable insights and consultation.
Helping businesses with efficient, sustainable waste stream management is just one facet of the Center of Innovation. The Center is one of the state’s most unique economic development programs, and a value-added benefit that helps businesses connect to resources, collaborate in research, and grow in the marketplace.
