Drones and Public Safety

The Georgia Center of Innovation for Aerospace (COIA), in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) are joining together to conduct a 3-day event August 28-30, 2017.  The event, called 'Drones in Public Safety' will take place on the GPSTC campus, located adjacent to I-75 in Forsyth, Georgia.

The event consists of three phases:

  • Day 1:  A full day of presentations and panel discussions on the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or 'drones' in various roles related to public safety.
  • Day 2:  Actual flying of UAS by public safety teams in five realistic scenarios to enable training and data collection to lead to 'best practices' for such situations.  The five scenarios planned include:
    • Disaster Assessment near flooding
    • Civil Aircraft Fire
    • Infrastructure Assessment and search for persons of interest
    • Lost person
    • Auto Accident forensics
  • Day 3:  Facilitated discussions to use the scenario results, lessons learned and the combined experience and creativity of the participants to gain consensus on best practices.
