Meet Emily Bland Emily Bland is a social entrepreneur with an agricultural heart. She is a 3rd generation farmer from rural Newfoundland and Labrador and is the current Seed-EO of SucSeed; a hydroponic social enterprise that is on a mission to help the world grow. Previous to this she completed the Commerce program at Memorial Universi ty of Newfoundland and Labrador. While pursuing her degree she was a part of the Enactus Memorial Team. Under her leadership as president the team beat out 1,700 teams around the world to win the World Cup, the following year they came second at the World Cup, won Nationals 3 times, and won 11 other competitions. Through Enactus, SucSeed was founded. SucSeed designs and builds hydroponic gardens that are built by yout h experiencing homelessness i n partnership with Choices for Youth. SucSeed has gardens in over 900 schools educating over 25,000 students ever year, over 2,000 homes and over 200 community groups across Canada. In 2021, SucSeed became the first B Corp in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Emily is the first entrepreneur in NL to be funded through SheEO, she was named HSBC’s Women Leader of Tomorrow for Atlantic Canada and was named Next 36’s Top Entrepreneur.She was also awarded NLOWE’s Young Enterprise of the Year Award and SucSeed was named the top Social Enterprise in Atlantic Canada in 2019. Emily is a graduate of the Creative Destruction Lab, where SucSeed raised it’s first round of capital, NEXT 36 where she was selected as most promising entrepreneur, WE Day Accelerator and Genesis Enterprise Program. Emily has a passion for social enterprise development. She was a founding board member of the Centre for Social Enterprise at MUN, and currently sits on the board of the Memorial Center forEntrepreneurship and the Empowering Indigenous Women’s Organization. Emily is a Director of Smiling Land Farm where she is helping lead the development of a 400-acre organic farm. She has been mentoring start up entrepreneurs since 2015, and has collectively helped fundraise over 2.5M in funding
