Veteran Boosts Small Towns in Through Film
Georgia.org Content: Dodd Vickers graduated from Georgia Tech and served in the U.S. Army, but he never thought he could pursue a career in film in his home state. He is now a location scout, and uses his geographical knowledge and contacts with many in the small business community to find unique fits for productions. He has seen firsthand the benefits to small town economies that comes with film production in Georgia. For example, Vickers and his wife were instrumental in scouting the town of Barnsville for HBO’s “Sharp Objects.” This series brought a ten percent increase in sales tax revenue as the production utilized many small businesses from restaurants to hardware stores. As a resident of rural Georgia, Vickers is honored to help bring renewed investment through the film industry to his backyard.
