Greg Schmieg

Gregory A. Schmieg is the Executive Director of the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA).  Appointed by Governor Nathan Deal in October of 2012, he currently manages over 2000 employees and an agency budget of approximately 185 million. His professional career consists of more than thirty years of working in both rehabilitation and healthcare. He began as a director of rehabilitation for two non-profit organizations in Missouri and New Hampshire and also worked as CEO at hospitals in Texas, Wisconsin, and Georgia. Under his leadership GVRA has quickly become the cornerstone of Georgia's rehabilitation community.
GVRA works to ensure the disabled community and veterans of our armed forces have the tools and opportunities to join Georgia's world-class workforce and become self-sufficient valued citizens who pay taxes, buy goods and services, rent apartments, and purchase homes. Greg is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, where he obtained both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Clinical Psychology. He served with distinction as a U. S. Navy Petty Officer during the Vietnam conflict from 1968-1972, where he received the Navy League Award.
