John Moffatt has served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) since 2007. As CFO, Mr. Moffatt is accountable for the financial, administrative, and risk management operations of the agency and a fundamental member of the leadership team, including the development of financial and operational strategy and resulting metrics, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve and allocate agency funds and report accurate financial results.
Prior to joining GDEcD as Accounting Manager in 1999, John worked for the Georgia Department of Labor in the Accounting and Finance Division, where he managed the Accounts Payable, Cash Management and Bank Reconciliation Divisions for the agency.
Before moving to Georgia in 1991, Mr. Moffatt lived in New Jersey, where he served as an Assistant Vice President with Bank of New York. In this capacity he oversaw the Financial Services Division, which included ACH processing, corresponding banking, escrow accounting, and bank reconciliation.
Mr. Moffatt holds an undergraduate degree in accounting and marketing from Seton Hall University and also holds a master’s degree in finance from Kennesaw State University. Mr. Moffatt is also a licensed CPA in the State of Georgia, maintaining membership in the Georgia Society of CPAs and the Georgia Fiscal Management Council. He and his wife Annette reside in Marietta. They have two adult sons and two grandchildren.
