Mary Margaret Garrett works as a Consultant with GDEcD. Responsibilities include policy development, sector strategy development, regional planning, etc. Garrett retired April 2015 as Manager of the Workforce Solutions Division at the Atlanta Regional Commission and Director of the Atlanta Regional Workforce Board which serves seven of the metro Atlanta counties. Responsibilities included administration and implementation of the federal WIA and initial planning for the WIOA. Additional responsibilities included development of industry sector strategies, business services, comprehensive adult, youth and dislocated worker services, rapid response to major business layoffs and closings in the metropolitan area including establishment of on-site transition centers and working with the GDOL, GDEcD, local Chambers of Commerce and Development Authorities on initiatives regarding workforce development. Work included a partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank and others on the Metro Atlanta Exchange for Workforce Solutions, as well as work with Atlanta Career Rise on a Supply Chain/Logistics initiative for the Southern Crescent. Garrett has served on several boards and committees in the region and is a member of the Regional Leadership Foundation. Prior to ARC, Garrett was an Employment and Training Specialist for USDOL and served as a federal representative, Executive Assistant to the Regional Administrator and as Assistant Director of the Regional Training Institute.
