Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality
Virtual reality (VR), along with its counterpart augmented reality (AR), is projected to be an $80-billion-dollar industry by 2025, according to global investment firm Goldman Sachs.
Georgia is on the forefront of this new wave of technology due in part to the state's thriving film and television production ecosystem and deep technology talent base.
Last year, there were 248 entertainment productions in the state, and the number of gaming companies rose to more than 70 in metro Atlanta alone.
Georgia's production tax incentive, which also extends to digital entertainment, has brought big projects and put the state on the world stage as no. 5 in film production globally.
Atlanta also lands among the top 10 cities in the U.S. for technology startup activity and venture capital funding further fueled by talent from neighboring internationally renowned institutions such as the Georgia Institute of Technology, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and others.
Georgia boasts leading thinkers in VR and AR research, game design and production. Demand from the state's 30 Fortune 1000 companies fuels virtual reality innovation for commercial use.
From the cutting-edge research conducted at Emory University leveraging VR to treat PTSD and Georgia Tech's dedicated Augmented Realities lab, to TRICK 3D's commercial projects for corporate clients such as Delta Air Lines and Georgia Power, VR innovations and applications are taking off in Georgia.
