Electric Mobility Infrastructure in Georgia
Access to efficient charging infrastructure has been identified as a key driver for electric vehicle adoption. EMIA has the goal to assess the existing EV infrastructure and provide suggestions for its future development. Focus areas include charging along interstates and highways as well as metro areas and rural regions. Additionally, the committee will recommend charging solutions for common destinations of vehicle drivers such as grocery stores, malls, hotels and touristic attractions.

Auto registrations in the Southeast US
The state leads the Southeast for the number of EV registrations per 1,000 registered automobiles. With its 4.4 ratio of EV registrations, Georgia is the only state in the Southeast approaching the national average of 4.8.
Georgia’s number of publicly available EV charging stations is growing exponentially, continuing to meet accelerated demand. The state is committed to continuing to lead the Southeast in EV infrastructure development to further advance the growth of electric mobility across the state. To support the now over 30,000 EV drivers on the road in Georgia, the state has more than 1,300 publicly available EV charging stations, boasting more than 3,400 individual outlets. That number represents more electric charging stations or outlets per capita than anywhere else in the Southeast or Sunbelt, except California.
Pivet teams with Georgia Power, ChargePoint for EV charging installation
Pivet, a Cox Automotive brand within the company’s Mobility Group, recently partnered with Georgia Power and ChargePoint — a provider of electric vehicle charging networks — to deliver one of the Southeast’s largest EV charging single property installations. Located between downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the station is strategically positioned to serve south Metro Atlanta. The installation will serve Georgia Power fleet electrification, Lyft Express Drive program, and other fleets in the area also requiring a large-scale charging solution.
State-of-the-Art EV Charging Stations Installed at Peachtree Corners Town Center:
Hubject, an eMobility consultancy specializing in assisting cities in accelerating their community’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs), and Peachtree Corners city leaders have worked together to create a comprehensive electrification plan for one of the first true smart city environments in the United States. Considering the EV charging needs of the city’s residents, businesses, and visitors now and into the future, the plan is a holistic electrification model that can serve as a clear example for other municipalities and counties.
National Alternative Fuels Corridors:
To accelerate the use of electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure needed to support them, the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has established a national network of alternative fueling and electric vehicle charging corridors on 48 Interstate Highways covering nearly 25,000 miles in 35 states. Through this initiative, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has nominated eight interstates and two US Route/State Highways as electric vehicle charging corridors that are now classified as EV ready. One of this initiative's goals is to make public EV fast charging available every 50 miles along the entire I-85 route.
Electric Highway Coalition
Southern Company, Georgia Power’s parent company, joined five other energy companies in their efforts to ensure electric vehicle (EV) drivers have access to a seamless network of charging stations connecting major highway systems across significant regions of the country. The Electric Highway Coalition – made up of Southern Company, American Electric Power, Dominion Energy, Duke Energy, Entergy Corporation and the Tennessee Valley Authority – wants to collaborate on a network of DC fast chargers from the Atlantic Coast through the Midwest and South and into the Gulf and Central Plains regions. Southern Company and the other companies are each taking steps to provide EV charging solutions within their systems’ service territory.
