Big Bon Bodega: Savannah Flavor with a Community Identity
Big Bon Bodega began in 2016 as Savannah’s first pop-up wood-fired pizza truck before evolving into a Korean-inspired, veteran-owned restaurant. Led by Kay Heritage and Executive Chef Shahin Afsharian, the popular restaurant has grown to include locations in both Savannah and Pooler.
What sets it apart: The menu spans wood-fired pizzas, globally inspired bagel sandwiches, bowls, and house-made coffee, offering a creative mix that has helped define its identity in the local dining scene. A priority on training students to become employees, particularly from nearby Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), is a way of giving back and helps engage a greater cross-section of the community.
Local connection: By sourcing ingredients from nearby producers and creating jobs, the business plays an active role in Georgia’s small business ecosystem while strengthening regional food networks.
Building community: Both locations serve as neighborhood gathering spaces, hosting events and collaborations that reflect strong community engagement and creativity.
