Aerospace Research and Education in Georgia

Public and private universities play a pivotal role in the sustainability and innovation of aerospace technology. Aerospace engineering students receive training in specialized fields, including thermodynamics, aerodynamics, flight software systems, statics and more.

Robust educational and research programs are the cornerstone of Georgia’s successful aerospace industry. U.S. News & World Report ranked Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) the best university in the nation for aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical undergraduate degrees and fourth for doctorate engineering degrees in 2022.

Georgia has six technical colleges with aerospace programs including Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Savannah Technical College, South Georgia Technical College, Atlanta Technical College, Augusta Technical College and Central Georgia Technical College. Together, these institutions graduate a strong cadre of aviation maintenance technicians and aviators.

Georgia Tech’s School of Aerospace Engineering has the largest number of aerospace engineering undergraduate students in the nation. The University of Georgia, Kennesaw State University and Georgia Southern University all have bachelor degree programs that provide skills vital to aerospace in Georgia.

There are also a number of ways for students not enrolled in a university to get involved in the aerospace industry including programs for kids, scholarship opportunities and special programs.

The Center of Innovation can assist aerospace research and education organizations with the following:

  • Acting as an intermediary between universities and aerospace companies in Georgia
  • Providing industry knowledge and technical expertise to research and educational organizations of all kinds
