Practical Advice + CMMC Compliance

Here in Georgia, the tech and cybersecurity industries are thriving – and the state is home to 4,000 contractors who do business with the Department of Defense (DoD). A November 30 interim rule change has recently put a spotlight on NIST 800-171 compliance and outlined further CMMC framework.

The interim rule highlights the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) framework and requires National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) assessments to be completed and submitted to the Supplier Performance Risk System (SPRS). All of this progress is intended to hold suppliers accountable for their cybersecurity practices before they can bid for government contracts.

Defense contracting is a $7.3 billion industry in Georgia, and NIST 800-171 provides crucial framework for compliance with CMMC standards. To help contractors get started on the CMMC journey, the Georgia Defense Industrial Base Task Force – a partnership of the Department of Economic Development and the Technology Association of Georgia – will present a series of conversations with industry experts.
