A cultural arts practitioner of 35+ years showcasing how African diasporic traditions have journeyed, evolved, and reconnected in Atlanta. 

With 35+ years presenting traditional art forms, Kouyaté’s work as a cultural arts practitioner explores how African diasporic traditions have journeyed, evolved, and reconnected within Atlanta’s cultural scene. Drawing on West African roots from Senegal and Mali, Kouyate’s practice comes to life through Cultural Labs, K-12 and higher education residences, and theatrical productions. 

Kouyaté also curates a range of ongoing and experimental traditional arts initiatives that strengthen African artistry and support evolution within the community. These include – La Nuit du Bazin: a cultural fusion of art, fashion, and music; La Culture Mandingue (LCM): a series honoring 13th century Malian Manding traditions, and Sabar Rek Atlanta: an immersive 3-day conference dedicated to dance, drum, visual art, and wellness centered on the traditions of Senegal / the Senegambia region.
