Explore Southeast Georgia
Defined by one of North America’s most unique ecosystems.
“Land of the trembling earth” is more than a name
The Okefenokee Swamp is believed to take its name from a Creek word, meaning, “trembling earth,” a reference to floating peat that shifts beneath your feet. This unique marker is part of an agricultural and industrial region connected with broader transportation corridors that support the steady movement of people and goods.

About Southeast Georgia
The Okefenokee comes to life through places like Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross, where boardwalk trails and guided boat tours offer a family-friendly way to experience its unique landscape. Across the region, agriculture and food production are central. In Alma, Georgia’s Blueberry Capital, growers expand production. In Valdosta, the Walmart dairy processing plant reflects strength in food processing and distribution while Tifton anchors agricultural research and production. Additional investment, including the La Regina Atlantica facility in Bacon County, highlights continued growth. Nearby, Moody Air Force Base and Valdosta State University support the region’s workforce and economy.
"The large agricultural environment in Bacon County is so similar to what we have here in San Marzano, [Italy]. It ensures we have access to vast supplies of all the raw materials we need to pack the sauce…. Then, there’s so much room for expansion – literally and figuratively – in Alma, not to mention the close proximity to the third-largest port in the U.S., the Port of Savannah.”
– Felice Romano, President, La Regina
